Policy for the Prevention of Predatory Citations in Journals
The Mythos journal is committed to NOT promoting or endorsing the citation of studies published in scientific journals that engage in predatory publishing practices (Predatory Journals). In order to ensure the scientific integrity and credibility of our published works, the following procedures are adopted:
-
Author's Preliminary Verification
Before submission, authors are encouraged to follow the recommendations of the Think. Check. Submit. initiative (https://thinkchecksubmit.org/), which provides clear guidelines for identifying reputable journals and publishers. -
Consultation of Reference Blacklists
Authors must verify whether the journals or publishers cited in their manuscripts appear in any of the following lists:-
Predatory Journals list (https://www.predatoryjournals.org/)
-
Beall’s List (https://beallslist.net/)
-
Mythos Non-Recommended Journals and Publishers List, compiled by the Mythos editorial board (Link to list)
-
-
Editorial Verification
After submission, even if the authors have followed all the steps above, the Mythos editorial board will conduct an independent and thorough check of all references cited in the manuscript. -
Decision Based on Findings
-
If any reference is found to cite a journal or publisher identified as potentially predatory, the submission will be rejected, and the authors will be informed of the specific reason.
-
If no bibliographic references are associated with potentially predatory journals or publishers, the manuscript will proceed through the standard editorial workflow of the journal.
-
This policy aims to uphold the highest standards of academic quality, safeguard the credibility of the literature we publish, and contribute to the fight against unethical and deceptive publishing practices in the global scientific community.
